It’s a long road my friend! Back in 2013 I started learning Chinese under the same pretext. I ended up majoring in the language and went and studied intensively in Shanghai for 7 months. I’ll be starting a PhD next year on the topics you raised in this article and will be using my Chinese to translate key policy documents/discussions on Chinese social media. Although I’ve achieved HSK 5, I still have a long way to go. Some conversations on out of ordinary topics I still struggle to follow and the language is full of cultural idioms and a analogies that make it hard for a foreigner to grasp. Be persistent and you will be rewarded! 在我们现代环境中,学习中文问一定是很宝贵的。 祝你好运👍🏻
