Fascinated by the mounting research detailing the therapeutic potential of psychedelic medicines, for several years I had been planning to embark on a higher dose mushroom trip.

After securing some mushroom infused chocolate from a trusted friend and discussing my plans with a close mentor, we set some guidelines and preconditions to prepare me for the trip.

Set (your frame of mind going into the trip) and setting (the familiarity and comfort of the environment you are in) are vital factors which can drastically impact the quality of the experience you have.

Forest bathing can purportedly enhance your mood in preparation for a trip, so in the morning I walked to a park I live nearby in Vienna to traverse some of the root protruding trails crisscrossing the water’s edge. The weather was sullen, and fog hung low in the air. I made sure I was fasted, and after returning from the park I exercised for 20 minutes or so until I had a good sweat going. Enough to get the blood pumping and endorphins charged.
