Hi John, thanks for the compelling read. Yes, allowing yourself to get swept away by the tabloid media and the insidious cycle of breaking news definitely does more harm than good. Being exposed to every terrible thing that’s happening on Earth right now serves to blunt action rather than encourage it. I would venture to say that its more important that people find the causes or the issues that they are willing to fight for and then invest in these. Being aware of everything in the news makes it seem like events are entirely out of our control and disempowers us. We need people to feel empowered and strive to change things for the better.
