Hey there Joe, thanks for writing. Novel stories like this are a hallmark of someone having lived in Asia. I recall sitting in a cafe near my dormitory in Shanghai and having a complete stranger come up and ask if I could teach a class of 30 students in a permanent position. There seems to be an inherent assumption that if you’re white, you naturally will be able to speak good English. In the same vein, I had friends from Singapore who had taught English before but struggled to get work. Oh and I had been recruited to be a model before too! That’s hilarious.
